5.  Working on Projects
Project Work Space

For each project assigned to you by a client, a separate project work space is created in your ‘Projects’ area of My City. You should use your project work space to stay up to date with the recent developments in that project and share important files/documents with rest of the team.

Project vs. Tasks

You might be assigned to an entire project or certain task(s) within the project. For small projects in which you are the only team member, the client will not prefer to create a task. For larger projects involving multiple team members, the client might assign you specific tasks. In either case, you can report your work hours with the same effectiveness, irrespective of whether a task is available or not.

Work Reporting

Work reporting is made extremely easy for youn in City Talent. Our automated work reporting tool, ‘City Time’, reports every minute of work you have done for clients in City Talent. You must download and install City Time to log all of your work on projects assigned to you.

Installing City Time

City Time is available for you to download from the City Library. If you have not yet downloaded City Time, click here to download City Time now.

Using City Time

The Projects/tasks assigned to you by various clients will be automatically available in your City Time Clock-in Screen. Before you can clock in to a project, you should first login to City Time using the same username/password that you use to access City Talent on the web.

Once you are logged in, you will see a list of projects and associated tasks in the ‘Clock-in’ screen.

Select the project/task that you will be working on from the drop down list. For a given project, if a task has not been created, you can still clock-in by choosing only the project. Your work will still be logged but the task will remain ‘Unassigned’.

Once you are clocked in, your clock-in time will be registered by City Time. City Time will now randomly capture your work activity in 10 minute intervals and submit them to the City Talent database. Once you have completed your work, you will need to clock out. If you are required to work on another project for a different client, you should clock out and clock-in again by choosing the appropriate project.

Reviewing your work logs

You can review the work logs (automatically logged through City Time) by going into your online account. Once you are logged in to your City Talent account, click on the ‘Activity’ tab located in My City. The Activity section displays a daily summary of work performed by you during a given work week.

In order to view work logs registered by City Time on a given day, click on the ‘View Work Log’ link provided for each day.

Online & Offline Work Logs
Work logs which are automatically registered by City Time are termed as ‘Online work logs’. There are times when you might not be able to use City Time to log your work. When that happens, you can add your work logs manually. Such work logs are termed as ‘Offline Work Logs’.

If you feel that certain work logs are not appropriate to be included for client billing, you can remove them.

Adding Comments
We recommend that you add comments to your work logs as much as you can. Comments help clients understand your work in a better way and will help instill a sense of confidence in your work.

Common issues in automated work reporting and how to overcome them

Slow internet connection
If your internet connection is slow, all work logs might not be registered properly. In such cases, you should manually enter offline work logs in the time slots where your online work logs do not show up.

Time Difference in City Time and Actual Work log
Due to inconsistencies in internet connection, you might notice a difference between the time recorded in City Time and the time registered in the Work log page. You can overcome such time differences by adding offline work logs.

Accidental System Shut Down

If your system shuts down while you are clocked into City Time and you try to work on City Time by using a different system, it will not allow you to login for 20 minutes. This is due to your connection being active in the City Talent servers. It takes approximately 20 minutes of inactivity for your connection to shut down automatically.
